As the world continues to turn in the saga that is Jay Mariotti’s resignation — or hissy fit, if you will — all his um, friends are coming out of the woodwork to voice their opinions. Rick Telander had some words for him, as did Roger Ebert.

And today, boys and girls, we have a special treat for you. It’s White Sox chairman Jerry Reinsdorf giving us his thoughts on Jay. Jerry, not known to be overly vocal with the media, was kind enough to speak to our own Kendahl Damico yesterday afternoon. A sample:

I was pleased. Honestly, it was not a big thing in my life. I mean, he’s a piss ant. Jay Mariotti, he never really affected me, and he certainly didn’t affect the opinions of our fans. When you take a negative guy like that out of the mix it’s a positive. I don’t mind him writing negative things as long as it’s a legitimate opinion. He had a habit of writing things that just weren’t true. That was the annoying thing about him.

What? You thought he was going to call him a modern-day David Halberstam? Anyways, go read the whole thing. It’s good.
