Michael Jordan, Steve Martin, Nike, and the Art of Disguise
If there’s one thing I’ve learned in my few years blogging, it’s that no retro Nike commercial is too old, or too irrelevant, to be reblogged time and time again. When said commercial is a lost classic featuring Michael Jordan’s “fake” retirement — and Steve Martin on some Mel Gibson conspiratorial ish — that’s a slam dunk. Get it? Slam dunk. Like, because Michael Jordan dunked a lot. I’m so funny this morning!
I have to admit, for a guy who got away with so much during his playing days — his dalliances with women and his gambling among them — Jordan sure isn’t very good at the art of disguise. Playing for your old team with nothing but a fake name and a mustache? Even Clark Kent couldn’t get away with that.
