Sooooo … Now Zambrano AND Harden Are Hurt?

By Will Brinson

Caveat: I am not a Cubs fan. This is important because I know/work with/talk to a large group of people who are fans of the Cubbies. And everyone is maintaining this “Everybody simma” attitude. Which is great. It really is. I wouldn’t freak out if Carlos Zambrano joined Rich Harden in the injured corner either.

After the game, Piniella said he expected Zambrano to have the MRI on Thursday.

And Piniella finally revealed what had been suspected all along: That another starter, Rich Harden, “has had some discomfort also.”

Lou didn’t have much to go on re: Carlos, because he decided to skip out on his MRI earlier this week. Although, with all respect to Schuster, perhaps Carlos wasn’t exactly faking it (although Eduardo Perez’ “sources” indicate that Zambrano is lazy too, so who knows).

And while I’m repeating things that talking heads say, it’s worth noting that Timmy K chimed in on BBTN that this isn’t really that big of a deal. Why? Because Carlos is going to be doing just fine come October, thank you. October, huh? Call me crazy but isn’t that a few weeks away?

Okay, fine. It’s not worth a meltdown. But if you tell me that anyone who roots for the Cubs is going to be all happy/jolly/not freaking out come the end of September if Harden and Zambrano still aren’t pitching, then I will probably look at you like you’re a Ozzie-Mariotti-crazy-stubborn love child.
