Idaho Removes Butt Logo, Breaks 11-Game Losing Streak
Advancement in uniforms are a natural progression. Football players no longer wear leather helmets, basketball uniform are devoid of belts, hockey goalies no longer look like Jason.
But there have also been some odd design choices: the White Sox had shorts for a brief time in the 70’s and Oregon’s ties to Nike sometimes scare people. (Though I welcome the Nike overlords.) And speaking of Nike, the company was called in for its services this year for the University of Idaho footballing squad. But a misplaced “I” on the pants — RIGHT IN THE BUTT CRACK — had many in a frenzy.
Idaho wore the pants — which featured a prominent “I” with “Vandals” in script across the butt — during its 70-0 season-opening loss to Arizona.
The pants got much of the attention, much of it mocking the Vandals.
“I was disappointed with the look and the appearance. We didn’t realize how noticeable it would be until it was on our players,” Spear said Thursday.
He said the program’s equipment managers have removed the sewn-in logo from all of the pants, and it will not appear during the Vandals’ game with Idaho State on Saturday.
“It’s changed,” Spear said.
Good news here, though: with the switch the Vandals — which is a great team name by the way — forged ahead and beat instate rivals Idaho State 42-27, snapping an 11-game losing streak in the process.
This just goes to show you, there really is no “I” in (your) team (’s crack).
