Holy Neckbeard, Batman! The Bears Are Gonna Win the NFC North!
OK, so perhaps that’s a bit premature. How-EVA, the Bears are currently the best team in the division, with all due respect to the Packers, who are not even close to the same team if Aaron Rodgers isn’t healthy (and word on the street is that he might be out a few weeks). And even if you want to get technical about “best,” they’re actually tied for first.
Such a spot in the standings comes on the heels of another strong performance by Kyle Orton and Matt Forte in the face of primetime; Forte wasn’t particularly dominant, but he made some big runs at big times against a very tough Eagles defense. Orton, on the other hand, had two picks, but he was also 18 of 34 (decent) with three touchdowns (way above decent) even though his turnovers were not what could be called opportune.
Da Defense was stout again this week (I will admit when I am wrong, and I was wrong on this one) and nothing stands out more than the goal line stand, especially a tremendous stop of Correll Buckhalter on 4th and 1. Whether Andy Reid should have called for a pass in that situation (he should have) is beside the point. The defense landed itself on Ye Olde Horse Trailer Player of the Week and with good reason. They are quite good.
Now, it warrants mentioning that this is probably a different ballgame with Brian Westbrook in there, but that can be said a lot in football. Additionally, the NFC North is not very good at all, especially with Rodgers injured. The Lions are the worst team in football, and the Vikings are an enigma that will probably remain good at just one thing, namely not letting Adrian Peterson get hurt.
But with an upcoming schedule (@DET, @ATL, MIN, BYE, DET) that should see the Bears go at worst 3-1, well, yeah, this division should be looking pretty good for them right now.
