Sox Top Rays, Live To See Another Day
It was not the conventional White Sox win. No home runs, no blasts of extreme power — just a lot of what Ozzie Guillen actually enjoys: some small ball.
The Sox had sacrifice flies, they advanced runners and they even swiped a few bases. Couple that with some timely hitting from the likes of Dewayne Wise and Juan Uribe, and some great pitching from John Danks, Octavio Dotel, Matt Thorton and Bobby Jenks and the Sox were 5-3 winners yesterday.
Though the way they won may not have been typical White Sox baseball, the timing sure was. This team has seemingly had its back against the wall the entire season. Nothing has come easy. Last week’s route to the playoffs taught us as much.
So here the Sox are: down 2-1 in the series, but with another game in the home-field advantage that is U.S. Cellular Field this afternoon.
The beat goes on, as it has all year.
