The Returns Are In: Bulls Vs. Mavericks
I caught a bit of the Bulls tilt with the Mavericks last night, but then “The Office” came on and then NBC pleasantly surprised me with “Weekend Update Thursday Edition” and then “Always Sunday In Philadelphia” was on and by the time I flipped back over to the Bulls, Roger Powell and Darius Washington were playing. So yeah.
But what I did catch in the first quarter was this: an overcharged Derrick Rose — flirting with good plays here and there, but a bit too all over the place and jittery at this current juncture. It’s cool though, it’s just the preseason. And he shaped up a bit in the second half. (Blog a Bull is of this piece of mind as well, and they like that he can play above the rim.) Though, young Derrick was a bit hard on himself for the six turnovers he amassed.
“I played terrible, if you ask me,” Rose said. “You don’t want turnovers as a point guard, so for me to get numerous turnovers, it stays on your mind.
“I was anxious but not nervous. Learning your teammates has a lot to do with it. Early in my year in college, I was getting a lot of turnovers. But as the season went on, they went down.”
In sum: it’s early, the Bulls are running a completely new offense under a new coach with a rookie point guard; this stuff takes time to coalesce.
