Derrick Rose Is Already Breaking Other Point Guards’ Ankles. Well, Spraining Anyway
I would like to quickly thank Derrick Rose for ruining my fantasy season early on. See, it turns out that the rookie — and first overall draft pick — has a nasty habit of snapping ankles.
And yes, he can metaphorically do that with his sick on-court skillz. But so far into his pro career, he’s literally doing it. Accidentally.
Results from an MRI done Monday morning showed no damage to the bone and tendons around the ankle, but the second-degree sprain will keep Williams out of the lineup for a minimum of two weeks. That would include the first two games of the regular season, which starts Oct. 29 when the Jazz host Denver.
The Jazz knew Williams would be out for a while after he was carried off the court Saturday after landing on Chicago rookie Derrick Rose’s foot on a 3-pointer in the first quarter.
Now, taking out Williams doesn’t exactly do a ton for Rose and the Bulls right off the bat. However, it does really, really screw me.
I kid. Kind of. Of course, judging from Rose’s stat line (4-of-14 for 11 points with three boards and only two assists in 40 minutes), there’s a decent chance that Williams landing on his foot did a little collateral damage too. It’s going to be interesting to see how Rose evolves in this offense early on; he’s obviously talented (duh) and is going to be great. But there’s so much immediate hype that I kind of think he’ll tend to disappoint a little bit early on.
Of course, he’s still going to be more effective than Deron Williams. So there’s that.
