Today In Guinness World Records: The 34-Hour Indoor Soccer Game

By Ryan Corazza

Getting in the Guinness Book of World Records is pretty cool, insomuch as you can tell girls “I’m in the Guinness Book of World Records.” This is a better opening line then telling them you are a blogger, trust me on that one.

So, congrats to the group of people in Terrytown, New York who set the Guinness record — pending review — for the longest indoor soccer game played at 34 hours. Best part of it all? Participants getting pissy about people backing out and quitting:

It might have been closer, but the Black lost two players, one to a back injury and one who quit - “He should be ashamed of himself,” said Aniello Ricchiuti of Sleepy Hollow, who played for the winning team.

Plus, the sides were chosen somewhat blindly.

“The difficult thing about this was we had 30-40 inquiries and requests to play, and when it came down to crunch time, we had so many people back out, either inexplicably or came up with ridiculous excuses,” said Kevin Kaye of Briarcliff, the president/general manager of OnTrack Sport Center who had been planning the event since the spring of 2007.

The final score? White worked over Black, 623 to 450. And you thought being a Lions fan was tough this year.
