Let’s Put Kyle Orton Starting This Week To Rest, Shall We?
OK, here’s the deal. That Devin Hester interview from earlier in the week? A tease. Sure, Kyle Otron probably did tell Hester something along those lines. But then you get to Wednesday at Halas Hall, when the Bears decided they’d trot out Kyle Orton as the starting quarterback at the press conference, and throw Rex Grossman back in the locker room.
It was a ploy. A ploy to keep us, and more importantly, the undefeated Titans, on their heels. They’d maybe have to prepare for two quarterbacks. Or, more shockingly, they’d be afraid of Big Bad Kyle Orton, the Neck-Bearded one who seems to have found a quarterbacking touch in the NFL.
But yeah, it was pretty much all for naught. As Vaughn McClure reports today in the Chicago Tribune, Kyle Orton didn’t even practice yesterday. He was nowhere to be found. That doesn’t really sound like a guy who’s about to take the field Sunday. I don’t doubt that Orton isn’t recovering at a quicker rate than usual. I don’t doubt he may not be out an entire month, as was previously reported.
But, I do doubt there was ever any real chance he was going to come back Sunday. Rex Grossman, you’re our guy until Orton actually gets behind center in a real game.
In other Bears injury news, Mike Brown appears to be ready to go for Sunday.
