Actually Kind of Funny: ‘Mayne Street’
Making fun of ESPN is so easy it’s not really even fun anymore. OK, I lied. It’s still sort of fun. Like when Emmitt Smith talks. It’s funny because he gets paid to communicate! Haha.
But a blogger must be careful not to paint ESPN with too broad a brush. Just as I wouldn’t want to be confused with, say, this guy. I know what we do isn’t all that different, but I like to think the way we do it counts for something, right?
Three cheers, then, for Kenny Mayne and Scott Van Pelt. Awash in a sea of meatheaded screamers, Dan Patrick wannabees, and Chris Berman, these two (among others) have managed to both keep SportsCenter interesting and do stuff that makes me think they’d actually be pretty cool to hang out with. Considering their boss also cuts checks for Berman and Mark Schlereth and Joe Morgan, this is something of an accomplishment.
Anyway, here is what I think about ‘Mayne Street’, Kenny Mayne’s new digital short:
1. Having the last name “Mayne” means producers will never run out of ways to get your name into an obvious show title.
2. In a commercial for the short, Mayne spoofs Bob Dylan’s “Subterranean Homesick Blues” video. I like this.
3. “The Office” has officially gone from “really funny show most of your friends like” to “major influence on an entire comedic generation.”
4. Scott Van Pelt? Funny dude.
More please, Kenneth. I want it to wash over me like a warm paste.

After seeing your already infamous article about the Virginia player who is working on starting a nice your family, I chose to search out other work by you. Here you go making fun of the people who you will never be good enough to work for. Sad. I almost didn't recognize your work without the hate male after it. Have a nice weekend.
