Obama Will Make Everything Better
Some people pander, and some people pander smart. (And some people don’t use proper English when they blog; it’s pander “smartly,” young man.) If there is a risky sports issue for a president to take a decisive stance on, whether or not college football should have a playoff is not one. Of course it should. Everyone knows that. That it doesn’t is one of the lasting testaments to man’s ability to screw up a really good thing like college football with money and bureaucracy.
But Barack feels the pain of the masses. He understands why you hurt. And he could totally use your re-election in four years, stereotypical white male between the ages of 34 and 45! What do you say?
“If you’ve got a bunch of teams who play throughout the season, and many of them have one loss or two losses, there’s no clear decisive winner. We should be creating a playoff system,” he tells CBS’ Steve Kroft in an interview to be broadcast Sunday.
According to Obama’s proposed system, eight teams would play over three rounds to settle the national champion.
“It would add three extra weeks to the season,” he said at the conclusion of a wide-ranging interview. “You could trim back on the regular season. I don’t know any serious fan of college football who has disagreed with me on this. So, I’m going to throw my weight around a little bit. I think it’s the right thing to do.”
And there you have it. Add “college football” to the Official List of Things Barack Obama Will Make All Better:
1. The Economy
2. Racism
3. The War
4. Why Can’t I Ever Keep Matching Socks Together?
5. College Football
But seriously, Barack: Where are my f–king socks?

I believe a playoff system is important, but I also believe the bowl season is beneficial from a monetary standpoint for programs, a chance for alumni to travel and see games and spend money which spurs local economies in bowl locations, and a chance for teams to be showcased on a national scale. I think bowl games are good for college football, and I also love the college FB regular season.
That said, I believe a good playoff system would work the following way: Each conference plays a championship game (this should be required - the big ten sucks by not doing this) and the winner of that title game should go on to the playoff system. This would include conference title game winners of: ACC, Big 12, Big East, Big Ten, Pac-10, & SEC. The top two independent teams would play each other the last week of Nov/ or first week of Dec (according to current BCS methodology of calculating pts for rank) for a spot in the playoff, as would the two teams ranked highest in BCS methodology not currently in the playoff as a result of winning their conference title game, these can be either bcs conference teams or indep. whatever the rankings say.
The teams would then be seeded according to current BCS point methodology 1-8 (and obviously with 1 & 2 on opp. sides of the bracket), with rankings frozen post-title game (thus it would not include the two "play in" games). December 13th, the first round is played at the higher seeds home field to give them an advantage and another gate. Semis both games are played on December 20th at the same site one game at 3PM and another at 8PM. The finals include only the two remaining teams and are played the first Monday or Tuesday in January on the 5th or 6th.
Any team not in the 8 team playoff still plays in a bowl game and are picked according to the current rules for selecting teams. The Rose, Sugar, Fiesta, and Orange rotate being the title game and can choose whether they want to rotate being a semi-final game and one being left out in a given year, or otherwise. Whatever on this note, but the other teams still play bowl games according to current way of choosing them. If you lose a playoff play-in game, you are still eligible for a bowl game.
