Bears Show They Are ‘With It’; Display New, Hip Offensive Package
Guys, did you hear the Bears did a little spicing up of their offensive yesterday? Yeah, totes. Get this: Instead of snapping the ball to the quarterback, they snapped it to Devin Hester. Another time they snapped it to Matt Forte. Crazy, right? It’s called the “wildcat” formation. And it’s apparently so complex — again, it just involves snapping the ball to a capable back, someone other than Orton (tricky stuff) — it’s been in the works for quite some time.
Having worked on the wildcat formation in practice for a year, Bears players began to think it was just something offensive coordinator Ron Turner was directing for his amusement.

The Bears could have been at the cutting edge of the latest sensation that has been most successful in Miami. The plan was to get Hester, who was taken off kickoff returns, more involved offensively. Hester had a 20-yard reverse on the first play from scrimmage.
”We actually put it in last year and worked on it, and obviously I never got it called,” Turner said. ”Should have.”
Last year, people brought up the fact the Bears should just direct snap to Hester all the time, instead of putting the ball in Rex Grossman’s hand. The way things were going, it seemed like a somewhat logical move. (They not very probable.) But when they get a competent quarterback this year, they bust this out … in Week 12. Hey, better late than never.
Next up for the Bears? The A-11.
