The NFL In 3D Has Arrived
You may remember back on Nov. 10 when I blogged how sports in 3D was going to be all the rage. It was going to blow our minds. (You may also not remember at all. I would tend to think you do not remember at all.) Well, for the NFL Network’s Thursday night broadcast this week between the Oakland and San Diego, 3D has arrived, son.
From the San Antonio Express-News:
Three movie theaters — one each in New York, Los Angeles and Boston — will host a private screening for invited guests only to show a live 3D produced game sent via satellite to each theater. The game will be screened in auditoriums that are equipped with 3D projector systems.
These are the same systems used to show 3D family entertainment such as the current 3D movie “Bolt” or the live-action “Hannah Montana” concert film that was shown earlier this year.
The audience watching the game will be from the consumer electronics industry and people from the league’s broadcasting partners. They will see the game and new TV displays that could be widely available in homes in the future, once broadcast standards, manufacturing costs and affordable retail prices are established.
While this is undeniably cool, I’m still left with the eternal 3D question: Will you have to wear the silly glasses or not? Is this the future 3D David Hill talks about without the use of glasses or the lame 3D that was hip in 1992?
if you’re wondering whether I should know this answer or not based on my love of “Hannah Montana,” that answer would be “no.” I’ve never seen an episode of “Hannah Montana.” Seriously. I haven’t.
Stop looking at me like that. Really. Stop it.
