The Bears Need To Win Out, But There’s No Reason To Believe They Will
OK, so, Tuesday we dipped into the fact that the odds were stacked against the Bears in terms of tiebreakers and whatnot. If they were to have a fighting chance of winning the division, they would need to win, and win out. The suspension of Vikings defensive lineman Pat and Kevin Williams certainly gets the ball bouncing in the Bears’ favor — even though a judge temporarily threw a restraining order on the NFL and they both might get to play Sunday.
Anyways, let’s look at the cold, hard facts here. The Bears haven’t won four straight in quite some time.
That would require the Bears to win four straight games—something they haven’t done since their Super Bowl run in 2006. They haven’t even won three of four since the end of that season.
This season is the only one in franchise history in which the Bears have gone 1-1, 2-2, 3-3, 4-4 and now 6-6, according to research by ChicagoBears.com.

As easy as it is to believe how the Bears could get on a roll with their defense and finish 4-0, it would not take much persuasion to see how they also could go 0-4. The familiar orange Cs on their helmets should be followed by question marks.
Half of the Bears’ victories have come against three teams that have combined for two wins. In November, the month that supposedly separates playoff contenders from pretenders, they were outscored 71-17 by Green Bay and Minnesota. They are giving up an average of 26 points each home game.
It’s been such an odd season for these Bears, that even with the overwhelming mediocrity they’ve shown, the up-and-down-and-around-again nature of this club, they’re still in the hunt. At this point, they’ll probably find a way to go 8-8 and make the playoffs. It’s just been one of those years. (Though, computer projections have the Vikings at 8.8 wins for the season. Could 9-7 do it for these Bears?)
Also, they might epically fail. Count on that, actually.
