Think Peavy Wants To Be A Cub? He Was Singing ‘Go Cubs Go’ The Other Night
The Jake Peavy situation seems to be turning into a not “if” but “when” situation. It still hasn’t happened yet … but trust in me, it is going to happen. And if it doesn’t, it will the first time in the history of baseball that two GMs have been trying very hard to work a deal — even bringing in a few other teams — because they both want the deal to go through, and for it to fail. Or so I’ve read in various regions of the Web.
But don’t turn to the GMs or the reporters at the Winter Meetings for verification on the Peavy-Cubs relationship. Turn to Roman Modrowski of the Sun-Times who had a friend in a bar Sunday night saying Peavy was singing that awful, unspeakable song named “Go Cubs Go.”
A friend of mine was in a group in a Las Vegas bar on Sunday night that included Jake Peavy, and the word is Peavy is fired up to join the Cubs.
He’s so excited, I hear, that at one point he sang “Go Cubs Go” at the bar after a “Brooks and Dunn” concert he attended with Roy Oswalt.
Peavy is psyched about the possibility of joining Carlos Zambrano and Ryan Dempster in a strong rotation. He said, according to my friend, if he doesn’t end up with the Cubs, he expects to land with the New York Yankees.
Brooks and Dunn? Cool!
Ah, so either the Yankees or the Cubs are going to end up with Jake Peavy? The rich appear to be getting richer. Baseball is a lot like life, in that way.
