Anna Rawson Is Sorry For Calling LPGA Players ‘D-kes’
Anna Rawson — besides being a very good golfer and a very attractive lady — is a very nice person. Trust me, bro, I know … if you know what I mean. So, it’s with that totally subjective opinion that I’m going to go ahead and say she didn’t have any malicious intent when she recently threw out the phrase “d-kes” regarding the LPGA.
“[The media] still think we’re at 25 years ago when the tour was full of, you know, a lot of d-kes and unattractive females nobody wanted to watch.”
Still, probably pretty poorly chosen words. There are many phrases you don’t want to say publicly if you’re a famous person (or anyone, really) and one of those includes, “d-kes.” Rawson has quickly come back to the media to let everyone know she’s sorry.
“I wasn’t talking about my opinion because 25 years ago I was two years old,” she said on Friday after shooting a two under 70 in the second round.
“I was making a reference to how I feel society sees women’s golf as a whole.
“I don’t believe that. I wouldn’t want anyone to think that was my opinion and I am sorry I said that, definitely.”
She also went on to point out that what she really meant was women still received the short end of the stick from the media in terms of coverage and because of that they make “seven times less” than men in winnings and “20-to-25 times less on the sponsorship front.”
And you know what? She’s absolutely right. And it stinks. But, regardless of how much you don’t like something, you’re almost assuredly always better off to leave the word “d-ke” out of whatever it is you’re trying to express.

Nothing stinks about the LPGA tour earning less than men. It is a different game. It is boring. For every Anna that can add appeal to the Tour, there is a Korean (pick one) who has no personality, uses their family to line-up shots behind the greens, are loathe to attend pro-ams and sponsor parties and on and on. Put out there a product that golfers want to see and we'll watch but what is being played now is not worth my time nor money. In the early 90's, the LPGA was approached by the PGA to do some joint events and advertising to help the women's tour. Two of the committee members thought it a great idea but the rest seemed to think the Tour could stand on its own. By the TV ratings and purses, they were wrong. Add to the mix, the Commissioner, a married man, openly dating a Tour member. Bizarre rules allowing his Tour girlfriend to review video after a tournament and decide if she should be penalized (while Beth Daniels had to play the final few holes not knowing what the decision would be, therefore, possibly effecting strategy.)
As for dyke comment, Anna is absolutely right. We are now going to sanitize the Dinah Shore tournament as something other than the "Lesbian Spring Break"? Sports Illustrated had a cover article about it. The tradition lived on long past Shores death. Many of those attending call themselves just that! (and, yes, the "N" word comes to mind...big deal).
