Matt Groening And ‘The Simpsons’ Think Detroit Lions Fans = Satan

“The Simpsons,” in case you haven’t watched lately, is on a bit of a rebirth. Now, I’ll admit to not havingĀ watched last night’s episode yet, but that’s OK: DVR exists.
Still, I’ve found “The Simpsons” to be pretty much a must watch since the beginning of time, with the exception of like two or three seasons in the early 2000’s. I think that’s when Matt Groening got off the smack. And everyone knows good smack = tons of creativity.
But this isn’t about heroin, it’s about sports, and Groening and company have (via MDS at FanHouse), again, decided to tie the sports world into the show, using — as you can see from the picture above — the Detroit Lions as a punching bag this week.
Ned Flanders, in last night’s episode, became the Simpsons landlord. Obviously, he had to evict them. When said eviction occurred, Flanders was wearing a diddly-do-riffic Detroit Lions shirt and appeared as Satan.
Now, I think that’s pretty GD hysterical. But, as MDS notes, does it really make any sense? After all, wouldn’t it be more apt to have Flanders portrayed as Matt Millen, the guy who created the eternal and everlasting suffering that Detroit Lions’ fans are currently enduring (and which should only pick up steam with the addition of Matt Stafford)?
Aren’t the Lions fans the opposite of Satan, simply because of all the torture they’ve had to endure? I would probably argue “yes” on that one. At the same time, you do have to be a total sadist to pull for the Lions, so maybe Groening is actually on point.
