Not Again: Goat Found Hanging On Harry Caray Statue Outside Wrigley Field

By Ryan Corazza

If I was a sane, rational and collected Cubs fan,  (which I am not) I am sure I would like to repeatedly punch the Cubs fan who decided to hang a goat on the Harry Caray statue early this morning.

A 911 call at about 2:40 a.m. Monday led police to the goat hanging from a rope on the arm of a statue of Harry Caray at the intersection of Clark and Addison (ed. note: this is wrong, it’s Sheffield and Addison if it’s the Harry Caray statue) streets, according to Town Hall District police.

Police took the goat down and disposed of the remains. It was not known how the goat died and nothing at the scene was damaged, police said.

As you may recall, someone decided to do this in October of 2007, right when the Cubs played the Diamondbacks in the first round of the playoffs. Chicago was promptly swept. (See the photo to your right for visual evidence of that.)

So my question this Cubs home opener morning is this: Is this the same individual or group of individuals who put the goat up in 2007? And if so, then why? Why do it again when it didn’t work the first time? Why hang a dead animal carcass at Sheffield and Addison to try and break a completely made up curse involving a goat? And even if this was the brainchild of different people, um, why? Why? Why? Why? Why?

It’s silly, it’s stupid, it only perpetuates the loser crown the Cubs have been wearing the last 100 or so years.

I’m not sure what goes through the heads of these people, but I’m pretty certain I don’t want to spend a second inside one of their brains.
