Bert Blyleven Will Eat Nightcrawler For Parkinson’s Charity

Bert Blyleven has done some weird things in his life. Of course, nothing weirder than the fact that a bunch of stuffy dudes with a stupid focus on “being a winner” are keeping him from being in the Hall of Fame, but still, you get the point.

However, his weirdest excursion into Bizarro World may come Thursday night, when he plans on eating a nightcrawler in the name of charity. No, that’s not 12 consecutive typos. From Fox Sports North’s Twitter account:

Bert vs. Nightcrawler: Bert will eat a live nightcrawler during pregame Saturday, its for a good casue, donate @ http://www.parkinsonmn.org/

Just another reason to love the guy — a willingness to chomp down on bugs in the name of helping others. Of course, this only sounds insane; as a former student of entomology at North Carolina State University, I have eaten my share of grubpuppies (grubs baked into hushpuppies, obviously) and, really, there’s nothing scary about insects.

In fact, the FDA actually allows a certain number of insect body parts in your daily food intake. Now, does this make it any less freaky that homeboy’s eating a nightcrawler? Hell no. But is this a really, really cool thing to do for charity and a great way of drawing attention to the promotion itself? Hell yes. So, while it’s not the same as an invitation to Cooperstown, I will heartily extend an Internet fist pound to BB for helping a select group of people while freaking the rest of us out.

Eewww...anyway, just make it sure the insects are prepared toxic-free at least it will cost you more nutrients while giving to charity. Isn't it nice.
