Justin Morneau: Unwilling, Boring Blogger
Recently, Minnesota Twins All-Star Justin Morneau — who, now that I check, is having a pretty great (.335/.414/.628) season — lost a bet. What was this bet? I’m glad you asked. Morneau bet Minneapolis Star Tribune writer La Velle E. Neal III the Vancouver Canucks would beat the Chicago Blackhawks in the second round of the NHL playoffs. As all hockey fans know, that did not happen. Morneau lost the bet, and thus was forced to “pay” Neal in the form of a blog post on Neal’s Twins blog. The results were … weak:
I’m not really sure what a blog is supposed to be as I have never read one. I don’t have facebook or myspace or any of those things where people can track your every move. With that said this is my attempt at blogging.
The reason that I am writing this is because I lost a bet to La Velle when my Canucks lost to his Blackhawks about a month ago. It was a huge disappointment for me as I thought they had a great bro-mance going there in Vancouver! Apparently it wasn’t as strong of a bro-mance that they had in Chicago.
Our season is two months old now and we need to start playing better on the road. We are not really sure what the difference is on the road, but hopefully we will figure it out soon.
It gets predictably boring from there. The only amusing part is the bromance bit, which is a reference to when Neal called Morneau and teammate Joe Mauer “one of baseball’s best bromances.” Apparently, Morneau’s wife had been saying the same thing for a while, as had the duo’s teammates, and so Joe and Justin got made fun of in the locker room, and they didn’t like that. Aw. That’s cute.
Anyway, weak blog post, Justin. Morneau’s excuse that he doesn’t know what a blog post is doesn’t fly, either: The man has a Twitter account. He understands this cruel new medium. He’s just not very good at communicating in it, apparently.
