Gordon Beckham Does Indeed Like 80’s Music
Gordon Beckham has been stepping up the plate with the Outfield’s “Your Love” playing out of the Cell’s speakers in his young MLB career. I have no qualms with this, because it is an awesome song, mostly enjoyed past midnight at bars far and wide in this great land of America. (Or at least in drinking establishments in Bloomington, IN. and Chicago, IL. I can not confirm its widespread use in other places.)
There is a chance he’s being ironic here, which is also just fine and dandy. I suppose there is a third option: A.J. Peirzynski or someone on the Sox put him up to this — a friendly bit of hazing. But according to CSN’s Chuck Garfien, it’s all Beckham’s doing:
After a recent game, I asked Beckham, “Who’s hazing you with that cheesy Outfield song?”
“What do you mean?” he answered. “I love the Outfield!”
Clearly, Gordon hasn’t been attending the meetings. Us guys never admit that we love the Outfield. We keep that under wraps.
“So you purposely asked the White Sox to play that song every time you come to the plate??” I asked.
“Yeah!”
Well there you have it: Gordon Beckham does indeed listen to The Outfield. (Also: Chuck Garfien asks questions with two question marks after them, and Gordon Beckham likes to yell when he answers them.)
Also: Did anyone notice how the band’s name is “The Outfield,” but Gordon Beckham plays in the infield?? No?? OK, then!
