Congress At Least Looking At Sammy Sosa’s Testimony
Yesterday, two of the better baseball minds on the Web speculated that Sammy Sosa likely worded his 2005 testimony well enough to avoid legal trouble. Sammy Sosa may have taken PEDs, corked his bat, and run out to right field like a clown, but at least he hired a great legal team.
But just because he may escape perjury doesn’t mean Congress isn’t at least going to look into it. And it’s wasting no time:
The chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, Democratic Rep. Edolphus Towns of New York, says that the committee takes seriously suggestions that a witness had been misleading.
Towns said in a statement Wednesday that he will determine the appropriate steps following a review of the matter.
Clearly, there is no indication one way or the other here yet. And remember: even if Sosa is charged, this does not mean he’ll be indicted. Again, his crafty wording may see fit to keep him in the clear.
But I’m sure he’s starting to sweat a little bit more today.
