Are The Bulls Trading Up In The Draft?
Another day, another completely different Bulls draft scenario! This time it’s not Tyler Hansbrough or B.J. Mullens at the 16th pick. Or any of the 15 other guys that have been slated in there for the Bulls by prognosticators. No, no. In fact, this scenario doesn’t even have the Bulls drafting at 16 and 26. This one has the Bulls trading both of their first-round picks to land a higher one.
From Chad Ford at ESPN (warning: Insider login to follow):
The Bulls seem to be the latest team trying to move up in the draft. They’ve talked to several teams in front of them in the draft with an offer of the No. 16 and No. 26 picks in the draft. It sounds as if the Nets have been their target and it might make sense for the Nets to jump on the deal.
They could still get a player like Tyler Hansbrough at 16 and pick up another player late in the first.
The Nets have the No. 11 pick, so it’s not like the Bulls are flying up that much higher. But, in a decidedly weak draft, getting one player higher up - Gerald Henderson? DeJuan Blair? — should be of more service to the Bulls than two from the leftovers later in the first round, right?
Well, maybe not. Some commenters at Blog A Bull are pointing out 82 Games’ expected performance by draft pick chart. And there’s an argument to be made that trading 16 and 26 for 11 is mathematically negligible. So yeah, there’s that.
But this only comes into play if the Bulls actually do trade. And depending on how much stuff has been thrown out the last few weeks, that’s anybody’s guess.
