The National League Versus Our Society’s Progression
In last night’s All-Star Game, the American League beat the National League by a tightly-contested score of they won to they lost. The National League has not won this contest since 1996. 1996! That was the year I was born!
In lieu of any analysis of the game itself, I’d like to further emphasize the American League’s dominance of the Midsummer Classic with a few depressing/fun facts. Since the last National League All-Star Game victory (July 9, 1996):
- Babies were born that, in certain states, will be able to obtain learner’s permits next year.
- Microsoft has released Windows NT, Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows Vista.
- Tupac Shakur was murdered.
- The blog was invented.
- The Human Genome Project was completed.
- Harry Caray died.
- Skip Caray died.
- Human beings successfully landed a vehicle on Mars.
- 22-year-olds became age-eligible to be the President of the United States.
- The domain “www.google.com” was registered.
- Tim Duncan made his NBA debut.
- Mario Kart 64 was released.
- Jerry Maguire was released.
- Ryne Sandberg retired.
I encourage you to think back to where you were and what you were doing on July 9, 1996. You’ve come a long way, huh? The National League All-Star team hasn’t!
