Erin Andrews Peephole Mess: I Blame That Dude With The Sign
That’s according to Chicago Sun-Times columnist Carol Slezak, who is the last person in the world to make the argument that witty headline writers and college guys with signs and probably bloggers and basically everyone who has ever looked at Erin Andrews and thought “Wow, you know, that is an attractive woman” are who’s really responsible for Andrews’ horrifying peephole mess:
If the allegations against Michael David Barrett are true, he is a very sick man. But his arrest won’t do anything to change the behavior of those who continue to find entertainment in reducing Andrews to a sex object. The blog and newspaper headlines that describe her as a ”hottie” or ‘’sexy.” The message boards filled with anonymous comments about her body, as opposed to her body of work. The signs college boys hold at football games — you’ve seen them on ESPN — which have nothing to do with her reporting skills. The Web sites that advertise pictures and peephole videos of her. Collectively, these testosterone-fueled behaviors might not create a stalker, but they help create an environment in which he feels safe to operate.
For real, you guys, a Chicago Sun-Times columnist just wrote that. She mentioned Michael David Barrett for like one sentence, and then bam, it’s off to the races. Blogs, newspapers, message boards, college boys with signs at football games … basically any form of communication ever used, really. Somewhere, someone is sending someone a smoke signal that Erin Andrews looks great in that gray sweater. I hope you know you’re endorsing sexual assault, Chief Wildbull. Hey, you, blog reader: Did you just read that sentence about the gray sweater? You’re doing it now too! You monster.
We all know this is ridiculous, right? I don’t have to write why this is ridiculous? We just know it? OK, cool. I’m going to go grab a bagel.
