Fancy That: Cubs Not Pursuing Mark DeRosa
If there is one thing I know about some Cubs fans, it is that they love Mark DeRosa. Love him. Love him. Love him. I suppose because he played a lot of positions, hit pretty well in his two seasons on the North Side and had some True Ballplayer in his bones, Cubs fans gravitated towards him. Fair enough.
And some of these same fans seem convinced that trading DeRosa was a terrible idea, and that 2009’s disappointing season was a direct result of him not being on the team last year. They want him back. Bad. Don’t believe me? Peep this poll. It’s a bit silly.
Anyway, hearts may be crushed today. According to the L.A. Times (via CBN) the Cubs are not on DeRosa’s list of suitors this offseason:
Of the Dodgers’ interest in DeRosa, Grunewald said, “The interest is mutual.” But the agent said that the Dodgers are one of a dozen teams that have asked about DeRosa, identifying the others as the Cardinals, Mariners, Nationals, Giants, Phillies, Orioles, Rangers, Yankees, Mets, Twins and Braves.
Finances could be an obstacle. Grunewald said his client, whose three-year, $13-million contract expired at the end of the season, is looking for another multiyear deal.
“We feel, obviously, a multiyear deal is going to happen,” he said.
Yes, so it seems just about every team in baseball is pursuing DeRosa except the Cubs. Maybe he can join the Yankees, and then all these same Cubs fans can turn on him. Though, I guess that didn’t happen when he joined the Cardinals.
Which proves DeRosa is immune to Cubs fan hatred. It’s a scientific fact.
