Everybody’s Blogging For The Weekend: Bears. Packers.
Oh, how different it now is.
When the Bears, and their fanbase, were gearing up for the Packers to start the season, there were large expectations for this team. One pundit, Sports Illustrated’s Peter King, even picked the Bears to go to the Super Bowl. We all know what happened. Jay Cutler started throwing the ball to members of the Packers secondary at an alarming rate — a trend that has continued throughout the season — and the Bears found themselves 0-1. From there, it’s been pretty much all downhill.
So what now? Well, the Bears are just looking to save a little face, and get a win over a good team for the first time since, um, Week 2 against the Steelers. They’re looking to save their Lovie Smith’s job, or at the very least, save Ron Turner’s job. And they can also play the role of the spoiler here, too: at 8-4 the Packers have legit Wild Card/playoff hopes. This is a big game for them. Every one from here on out is.
The silver lining here is that the Bears are coming off a no-pick performance from Cutler and a game where Matt Forte ran for almost 100 yards on 3.8 yards per carry against the Rams last week. But, that means very little. The Packers are fourth in the league against the run. Which means Cutler is going to have to throw the ball. Which means … well, we know what that means.
