Everywhere You Look, There’s Harry Caray

By Ryan Corazza

Have you guys ever been to Harry Caray’s Italian Steakhouse on Kinzie? What about Harry Caray’s Tavern on Sheffield? Harry Caray’s Discount Furniture Store? What about Harry Caray’s Pawn Shop? Harry Caray’s Liquor Store, where all they sell is Old Style?

No, no, no, no and no? Well that’s OK. Because now you have another place to get a Harry Caray fix: Navy Pier. That’s right, they’re throwning in a Harry Caray’s Tavern there too.

Bringing another Chicago brand to that tourist site, the sports-themed eatery will move into the former Joe’s Be-Bop space. The board of the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority, which owns and operates the pier, voted this morning on a staff recommendation to lease the space to Harry Caray’s, one of a number of bidders.

As you can see from my awesome illustration, this move brings Harry’s likeness a bit farther south in the city. That reminds me, I think there’s an open spot down on the South Side somewhere

Is This The Photo Of The Actual Goat Head On Harry Caray’s Statue?

By Ryan Corazza

Remember last week when a goat — well, it was actually a goat head, it seems, though both were being reported depending on where you were reading — was found hanging on Harry Caray’s statue? Of course you do. Your memory isn’t that bad, is it?

Well, the Heckler has a photo of said goat head, and it’s sort of gruesome:

It’s possible this was Photoshopped, but the presence of the police car in the background leads me to assume it was not, as perhaps this was captured by the police. (The perpetrators wouldn’t take a photo while a cop was around right?) Unless the person who Photoshopped this thought it would be a good idea to have a cop car in the background so people like me would assume it was the real thing. Who knows.

Either way, I think PETA is about to get involved with this real quick.

Not Again: Goat Found Hanging On Harry Caray Statue Outside Wrigley Field

By Ryan Corazza

If I was a sane, rational and collected Cubs fan,  (which I am not) I am sure I would like to repeatedly punch the Cubs fan who decided to hang a goat on the Harry Caray statue early this morning.

A 911 call at about 2:40 a.m. Monday led police to the goat hanging from a rope on the arm of a statue of Harry Caray at the intersection of Clark and Addison (ed. note: this is wrong, it’s Sheffield and Addison if it’s the Harry Caray statue) streets, according to Town Hall District police.

Police took the goat down and disposed of the remains. It was not known how the goat died and nothing at the scene was damaged, police said.

As you may recall, someone decided to do this in October of 2007, right when the Cubs played the Diamondbacks in the first round of the playoffs. Chicago was promptly swept. (See the photo to your right for visual evidence of that.)

So my question this Cubs home opener morning is this: Is this the same individual or group of individuals who put the goat up in 2007? And if so, then why? Why do it again when it didn’t work the first time? Why hang a dead animal carcass at Sheffield and Addison to try and break a completely made up curse involving a goat? And even if this was the brainchild of different people, um, why? Why? Why? Why? Why?

It’s silly, it’s stupid, it only perpetuates the loser crown the Cubs have been wearing the last 100 or so years.

I’m not sure what goes through the heads of these people, but I’m pretty certain I don’t want to spend a second inside one of their brains.
