Philadelphia Is Already The New Boston, And They Haven’t Even Won Anything Yet
I have covered the absurdness of Philadelphia Phillies fans getting all amped up about World Series parade plans elsewhere already, and while it certainly merits mentioning, I would like to briefly touch on the fact that these people are on the quick path to becoming totally insufferable.
(Aside: Yes, the No. 3 and No. 5 most Googled phrases in the entire world today are “Phillies Parade” and “Phillies World Series Parade.” Yes, it is completely ridiculous that anyone is planning a celebration with only a 3-1 lead. The Yankees didn’t even do this with the Red Sox in 2004.)
Then I look at result No. 8: Citizens Bank Park Seating Chart. And what that says to me is that a lot of people in the general Philadelphia area are interested in purchasing tickets for a World Series clinching game. And why shouldn’t they be — it’s a historical moment. However, I also know that the majority of people who care about their local team and support said local team, don’t need a seating chart to know where to sit in order to have a good view.
Which leads me to the worst point of all: Philadelphia is about to become the “New Boston.” Sure, they don’t have the success in football or basketball (yet), but there’s a legitimate chance the Sixers could backdoor the East this year, and the Eagles look fantastic. But success does not a classification make, my friends.
