Facebook Chatting With Jack Cooley: The Kid Is Confident

By Dan Poneman

I was sitting around today on my computer, wasting my time Facebook chatting and putting off doing my homework. I started chatting with my boy Jack Cooley, (who btw is one funny kid) when he made a bold statement that I felt I had to share with you all …

(In case you all don’t already know this, Jack is a 6′8 senior PF from Glenbrook South, committed to Notre Dame, played AAU with Rising Stars.)

“We are going to beat E-Town twice, and that’s on the record,” Cooley boldly stated about the team that beat his GBS Titans by over 20 points last year. I tend to be somewhat of a hater at times, so naturally, in my hater nature, I had to snap back. “Right Jack, like anyone on your team is going to be able to stop Ryan (Frazier-Chambers).”

I guess I spoke too soon.

“Dan, you must not have seen GBS play much this summer… Alex Garvey. He’s a junior. You have never seen him, but you will. He is like Cully Payne without quite as good a jumpshot. But he’s a junior and is going to get it. The kid is good. Ryan is great, but they are going to be evenly matched. And we ARE going to beat Evanston. Twice.”

Treated? We will see. Lets see how his predictions hold up in a few months…

Since I told him I wanted to put that on the blog, I figured I could add a little more content to the post, so we did a little word association…

Rising Stars:

“(I’ll miss) Just playing with such a close knit group of great players. and playing so much basketball. I loved that.”

Notre Dame Basketball:

“Luke Harangody and playing basketball for Coach Brey in the Joyce Center”

Luke Harangody:

One of the best big men I’ve ever seen. My role modle and someone who I hope I can strive to be as good as.”

NBAPA camp:

“The best basketball learning environment I have ever been apart of.”

Defense:

“An under-rated portion of the game in high school basketball. and something I take pride in.”

GBS football:

“A GBS team that is very, very good and is gonna go deep into the playoffs.”

Look for more on Jack Cooley soon. Expect a post after the first Evanston game :).
