Every hit and run counted in a game where there were only two scoreless innings.  White Sox rookie Gordan Beckham was able to come away with the last and most important hit of the day, giving the White Sox an 8-7 walk-off victory over the Cubs Saturday at U.S. Cellular Field.

Gordon Beckham can cross one more thing off his Major League First list - a game-winning hit.  The rookie third baseman hit a two-out single off Cubs reliever Jose Ascanio in the bottom of the ninth to drive in the decisive run Saturday afternoon.

It was a wild game from the start, featuring 15 total runs on 23 hits, three errors, six lead changes, and scoring in nearly every inning.  And while the White Sox and their opponents have been hitting plenty of home runs during this homestand, only one, a solo shot by Scott Podsednik in the fifth, was hit today.

Ryan Dempster started for the Cubs, going five innings and giving up five earned runs on eight hits and three walks.  Jermaine Dye, Podsednik, and A.J. Pierzynski all had run-scoring hits against the veteran right-hander.

Mark Buehrle fared slightly better, pitching 5 2/3 innings and giving up five runs, three earned, on six hits and three walks.  Big blows against him included RBI knocks from Derrek Lee and Ryan Theriot.  Buehrle was also charged with two runs when reliever D.J. Carrasco allowed an double from Alfonso Soriano to score two inherited baserunners.

With the score tied at 7 going into the bottom of the ninth, Sean Marshall (3-6) gave up a one-out single to Paul Konerko and was then lifted for Ascanio with two outs.  Ascanio then walked Jayson Nix before allowing Beckham's game-winning single to center field.  Beckham was able to atone for his crucial throwing error in the third that helped lead to runs for the Cubs.

Bobby Jenks (2-2) worked a perfect ninth for the win.

The rubber game of the series will take place tomorrow afternoon with John Danks facing Cubs' ace Carlos Zambrano.
