Derrek Lee and Kosuke Fukudome each had a home run and Randy Wells pitched seven innings of one-run ball, as the Chicago Cubs defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 4-1 Wednesday night. The Cubs took two-of-three from the Bucs.
Randy Wells pitched seven innings of six-hit, one-run ball to move to 3-3 on the season as the Cubs defeated the Pirates 4-1 Wednesday night at PNC Park. Derrek Lee opened up the scoring with a two-run homer in the first inning and Kosuke Fukudome added a solo blast in the sixth to add to the Cubs' lead. Rookie Sam Fuld had an outstanding game, leading off the game with a double, walking in the fifth and hitting a single in the seventh. Fuld finished 2-for-4 on the day, scored a run and saved a run with a perfect strike home to nab Jack Wilson at the dish.
Virgil Vasquez gave up three runs on seven hits in six innings pitched in his first look at the Cubs. Brandon Moss put the Bucs on the board with an RBI single in the bottom of the first but Pittsburgh was held scoreless for the remainder of the game. Carlos Marmol pitched a scoreless eighth for the Cubs and Kevin Gregg closed things out with a scoreless ninth.
The Cubs took two of three from the Pirates and will head home to Wrigley Field for a four-game series with the Milwaukee Brewers.
