Recently, rumorpress.net reported that the Bulls would be interested in trade talks that would involve Shaquille O’Neal coming to the Bulls in exchange for Luol Deng. Should the Bulls listen to the Suns rumored proposal?

This is definitely an intriguing rumor. With the trade, the Bulls could get rid of Deng’s huge contract that he hasn’t played up to yet and would be getting in return a future hall of famer. Although Shaq’s not getting any younger, he is definitely still producing. Last year he averaged nearly 18 points and 8 rebounds per game. Shaq could provide a veteran presence in the young Bulls quest for an NBA championship.  With his contract expiring after the season, the Bulls could still go after players like Chris Bosh in the loaded free agent class of 2010. With Shaq in the post, more space could be opened up for guys like John Salmons to hit their outside shots and Derrick Rose for driving in the lane.

The downside of the trade for the Bulls would be that Shaq could make the offense slower which wouldn’t be good for the young and running Bulls team. Dealing with Shaq’s infamous poor free throw shooting would also drive Bulls fans crazy. Shaq and Brad Miller as teammates could also be interesting (youtube- shaq punches miller). With the Bulls wanting to focus more on defense, Shaq would not be a good fit.

For the Suns, Luol Deng, if he can stay healthy, could add to their mold of the fast break offense. With his decent speed and mid-range jump shot, Deng could be a nice addition. If he ends up growing into the player the Bulls and many “experts” believe he could end up being, the trade could turn out really well for the Suns.

If Deng were to come to the Suns, the Suns will have to live with their decision for five more seasons until his contract expires. This would definitely leave them in a bind that could cost them for years.

Should the Bulls look further into trading Luol Deng for Shaquille O’Neal, or should they let Luol Deng be a Bull for at least another season?
